people Oxfordshire Homeless - Volunteers wanted
Before the purpose built O’Hanlon House the homeless huddled around a stove in a disused railway carriage in Oxford waiting for the Night Shelter to bring them food and later they were housed in an old school.
O'Hanlon House offers facilities for resettlement. Local churches, including our group of Parishes, donated bedding and clothes. Now the problems of homelessness are recognized locally and nationally. For many years I have written updates on homelessness for the Shelswell News and organised collection and delivery of bedding, clothes and toiletries to Oxford. I liked going to the reception at O'Hanlon House and meeting the 'hands on' people. I have had grateful letters of thanks - some personal ones.
Are there any one or two people who are interested to take on this worthwhile work? Contact me for a chat (01869 346662) or on or contact Becky at
Many thanks to all who have donated so generously in the past and to those- Rex and David in particular- who have helped with deliveries.
